Two calculators and a readiness check

What a real bill would actually reimburse, which of two plans is genuinely cheaper once fees are included, and whether you know what you are enrolling into.

Reimbursement estimate on a real bill

Enter a vet bill, your deductible and reimbursement rate, and see what a plan would actually pay back.

Assumptions this uses
  • The full bill is assumed to be eligible under the plan — exclusions or a pre-existing determination would change this.
  • The deductible entered is what remains to be met this policy year, not the full annual figure.
  • The reimbursement percentage is applied after the deductible is subtracted, matching how insurers actually calculate it.
  • No consideration is given to waiting periods — this assumes the claim is fully eligible to be filed.

Limitations: this does not account for exclusions, pre-existing condition determinations, waiting periods or per-condition sub-limits — the actual reimbursement from a real claim depends on all of those.

Before you compare plans

Run the reimbursement math on a real bill first

Pick a realistic bill for your species and situation, then work out what each plan's deductible and reimbursement percentage would actually pay back. The headline percentage alone tells you very little without doing this once.

True annual cost of two plans

Two plans side by side on total annual cost, including any wellness add-on or fees the monthly premium alone hides.

Assumptions this uses
  • Both plans are assumed to offer equivalent deductible, reimbursement percentage and annual cap — if they do not, this comparison alone does not settle which is the better value.
  • Add-ons include anything billed separately from the base monthly premium, such as a wellness rider.
  • The five-year figure assumes the difference stays the same, which it will not exactly, since premiums typically rise with a pet's age.

Limitations: this compares price only. It cannot tell you which plan actually pays more on a real claim, which depends on the deductible, reimbursement rate and cap, not the premium.

Coverage-readiness checklist

The questions worth answering before you enroll. Work through them once and every plan becomes easier to compare.

Assumptions this uses
  • This reflects the information most US pet insurers request or that matters most at enrollment.
  • Requirements and available options vary by insurer.

Limitations: a checklist prepares your questions and makes plans comparable. It does not price a policy or tell you which plan is right for your specific pet.
